Victoria Wernicke: Violinist/Violist & Teacher

About

Victoria Wernicke is a thoughtful and sensitive baroque violinist and violist who has enjoyed a bicontinental career. Raised in San Antonio by German parents, she is in demand as a violinist and violist performing with many period instrument ensembles including the Texas Early Music Project, La Follia, Bach Collegium Fort Wayne, Dallas Bach Society, Music City Baroque and the Bloomington Bach Cantata Project. With the Dallas Bach Society, Victoria has appeared as a soloist on several programs, performing Winter from Vivaldi’s Four Seasons and Bach’s Double Violin Concerto.

Victoria has her Master’s degree in baroque violin from Indiana University’s Jacobs School of Music, studying with Ingrid Matthews. She previously earned her Bachelor’s degree in violin performance from the University of North Texas, studying with Dr. Felix Olschofka, Eunice Keem, and Cynthia Roberts. Following her Bachelor’s degree, Victoria studied baroque violin at the Royal Conservatory of The Hague with Ryo Terakado. While in Europe, she performed in a side-by-side concert tour series with the Orchestra of the 18th Century.

In addition to the violin, she enjoys performing chamber music and Bach cantatas on the viola and has also studied the harpsichord and rebec. Her newest instrument is the treble viol. Victoria currently teaches K–1 strings at The Girls School of Austin and teaches violin and viola lessons in Round Rock ISD. She also teaches from her home in North Austin, and when she’s not teaching or performing, she enjoys hiking and baking sourdough bread.
